Varaždinske Toplice is the oldest thermal spa in Croatia, which is proud of one of the most important continental archaeological sites - AQUA IASAE
The town of Varaždinske Toplice is located on the northeastern edge of Hrvatski Zagorje, on travertine terraces along the southern slope of Toplicka Gora and the rim of the basin through which the Bednja river meanders.
It rises in a picturesque landscape of unique beauty, and due to its sheltered position, it has a relatively mild and, above all, healthy climate. In ancient times, the Romans recognized this, and in addition to the generous spring of healing thermal water, they gave the settlement the name Aqua Iasae during the Roman Empire.
The city of Varaždinske Toplice has the oldest thermal spa in Croatia, and in the center of the city is preserved one of the most important continental archaeological complexes, excavations of a Roman thermal bath from the time of the Roman emperor. Constantine from the 2nd century, which served its purpose for four full centuries.
